Midtown Advisors teach ceramics at The Heights
Budding young artists and residents of The Heights in MPD's Midtown district learned how to make clay pinch pots on Monday in a fun-filled (and joyously messy) afternoon with MPD Officers and staff and Midtown's Community Policing Advisory Board members.
Kudos to Advisor Kahlia Lintner who conceived of the idea, ordered and prepped all of the supplies, developed a lesson plan, and taught the class. She even arranged for her studio to donate the firing of the students’ pieces in the kiln. Next step? Kahlia and the other Midtown Advisors will return with everyone’s pots and sculptures for part two: glazing and decorating.
The event could not have happened without CORE Officer A. Lewis, who works with the youth at The Heights every week after school. What a wonderful way to build community and relationships. Kids loved the chance to make art with Madison police officers from all corners of the city (and a few sculpted their very own police badges out of clay).
