CPAB Background and Recruitment
Community Policing Advisory Boards
In June 2023, the City of Madison Police Department (MPD) and the Madison Community Policing Foundation (MCPF) selected applicants to serve as consultants on Community Policing Advisory Boards (CPABs) in each of Madison’s six police districts.
The creation of CPABs is a key part of a grant awarded to MPD by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (cops.usdoj.gov) and supported by the Madison Community Policing Foundation.
Between June 2023 and September 2024, Consultant Advisors will serve as their community’s voice in dialogues with the Madison Police Department and the officers who work in the police district they live or work in with the aim of growing trust and legitimacy between residents and MPD and creating a sustainable process to continue this collaboration in the future.

Community organizations serving as ‘Bridge Builders’
Madison Police Department Captains also reached out to organizations embedded in their communities to discuss the opportunity to serve as “Bridge Builders” by helping to identify residents from diverse backgrounds to serve on the CPABs and to engage in community events that promote relationship-building, trust, and legitimacy between residents and police.
